Why Do You Keep Choosing Comfort?
We’ve all been there…
You’re at the mental starting line… ready for take off… and last second you choose something easier.
And it’s not because you’re lazy, but because in that moment, comfort feels better than having to find out what will happen if you actually try.
That One Moment
It’s always the same.
You open your phone for “a second.” and soon after catch yourself guilty of procrastination.
You briefly think, “I really should just do it now.”
Then comes the quiet line we rarely even question:
“I’ll do it later.”
That line feels seemingly harmless as we perform mental gymnastics to convince ourselves that we’ll do it later. But as we both know, that same routine happens later.
Procrastination quietly decides more of your life than any big goal ever will.
Because your brain is not built for your dreams.
It’s built for safety.
The second you don’t start… the pressure drops.
No risk.
No judgment.
No chance of failing at something that actually matters to you.
You get relief.
And your brain learns fast.
It starts choosing relief over growth… automatically.
So now it’s not even a decision.
It’s a reflex.
When It Hits…
The regret of choosing comfort is almost never felt in the “short-term“ … and that’s what makes it so hard to avoid.
You feel it when you’re lying there at night…
thinking about the same thing again and again.
When you see someone doing something close to what you’ve been thinking about for months.
When you realize you’re not confused… you’ve just been delaying.
That feeling?
That’s not lack of motivation.
That’s self-betrayal.
The Moment I Had to Admit It
I vividly remember, April 14th 2023, laying on my bed confused… mindlessly scrolling, switching between apps, fully consumed by this rectangular device we all call phones.
I could viscerally feel time quickly passing me by.
Suddenly I got that random urge to “lock-in“. To figure my sh*t out. To make something out of my life.
Now, at the time I had a pretty clear idea in my head of what I wanted to do.
Some simple first steps, some videos I’d watch, some books I’d read… the standard procedure.
But beyond that everything felt blurry and uncertain.
And, ultimately, I didn’t do it.
Not because I couldn’t, but because the risk of failing and exposing myself felt too overwhelming.
And in that moment I remember thinking to myself:
If I keep living the way I am, I’m going to have to change my goals or my habits, because both aren’t even remotely aligned.
It’s an unpleasant reality check, but a catalyst for change.
Being ready isn’t a feeling you get, it’s a decision you make.
You’re not losing because you don’t have what it takes.
You’re losing because you’re choosing a version of life that demands less of you.
So What Changes This?
Not motivation.
Not a new plan.
Just this:
Consciously catch the moment you choose comfort over growth… and don’t lie to yourself.
Not “later.”
Not “tomorrow.”
Now.
Before you negotiate your way out of it.
One action.
Messy. Small. Real.
Because every time you move in that moment… you rebuild trust with yourself.
And every time you don’t…
you quietly break it.
Confidence isn’t built by thinking.
It’s built by watching yourself follow through.
A quote from Alex Hormozi:
Confidence doesn’t come from shouting affirmations in the mirror but by having a stack of undeniable proof that you are who you say you are. Outwork your self doubt.
If You’re Sitting On Something Right Now
I’ve been working more closely with people who are stuck in that exact loop.
Same pattern.
They’re not lost.
They’re right at the edge… they just keep stepping back.
The key here is to keep it simple.
Take the thing that won’t leave your head… and make it real.
For a lot of them, it starts with something online.
Faceless pages.
Simple content.
Built from your phone.
Nothing fancy.
Just something you stop avoiding… and finally start.
If that’s been sitting with you, reach out.
I’ll walk you through how I’d approach it.
Here It Is…
The next time you hear yourself say “I’ll do it later”…
Pause.
That’s not a harmless thought, that’s the exact moment your life goes one of two ways.
And deep down…
you already know which way you’ve been choosing.
